At the 6th Global FUTURECEM Conference in Munich, UKQAA member TITAN was recognised for its Fiddler’s Ferry processing and beneficiating facility, winning the award for ‘Debcarbonisation Project of the Year’ – Global FutureCem Award 2026.
This award is a recognition of the progress TITAN has made at the former power station in Warrington, UK, where it is building a state-of-the-art facility to process and beneficiate legacy stockpiles of coal derived fly ash (CDFA). This process, using proprietary technology from ST Equipment & Technology (a fellow UKQAA member), turns fly ash into a high-quality material suitable for producing lower-carbon concrete and construction materials.
Discussing the project, UKQAA director Dr Nigel Cooke said: “Work at the Warrington site represents a significant milestone in the processing of legacy stockpiles of CDFA, demonstrating how innovation can unlock existing resources to deliver immediate carbon savings.
“At a time when the UK construction sector is grappling with clinker reduction, embodied carbon targets and supply resilience, this initiative sends an important signal: legacy materials, when properly processed and quality assured, can form part of a credible, scalable decarbonisation pathway.
“Reports of the demise of CDFA as a construction material in the UK have clearly been greatly exaggerated. The real story is one of technology, policy alignment and industry collaboration — ensuring valuable secondary materials remain in productive use rather than becoming stranded assets. A strong example of industry leadership supporting national net zero ambitions.”
TITAN’s work at Fiddler’s Ferry is part of the expansion of its Alternative Cementitious Materials platform, under its Forward 2029 strategy focused on advancing innovation, sustainability, and future-ready growth.
